STAR WARS FANS across the world are mourning the loss of Carrie Fisher, who passed away on Tuesday.

The actress, beloved for playing the fearless Princess Leia in the franchise, died four days after having a heart attack on a flight to Los Angeles.

Her mother, Hollywood legend Debbie Reynolds, died just a day later after suffering a stroke at son Todd Fisher’s Beverly Hills home.

Last night, hundreds of Star Wars fans in two US cities came together to pay tribute to Fisher and Reynolds with ‘lightsaber vigils’.

The biggest one of these gatherings was at Disneyland in Los Angeles, where around 800 people pointed their sabers to the sky for Leia:

Meanwhile in Austin, Texas, Metro reports that around 200 fans came to the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema to pay their respects.

These tributes join those of Fisher’s fellow Star Wars cast member Mark Hamill, who described her as “one of a kind”:

She was our princess, damn it, and the actress who played her blurred into one gorgeous, fiercely independent and ferociously funny, take-charge woman who took our collective breath away.
